Profile, follows and relays
Your own Nostr data
The Profile, Follows and Relays pages edit your own Nostr data, for the key you signed in with. Each page shows which key it is editing.
- Everything is signed by your own signer: your extension or your remote signer. The bunker is not involved, and its key never signs your data.
- Everything is published to your relays from your browser.

Which relays are used
Bancwr reads and publishes through:
- your own write relays, from your relay list,
- the default profile relays (damus, nos.lol and primal, unless the operator changed them),
- indexer relays, which collect profiles and relay lists from across the network (purplepag.es, profiles.nostr1.com and relay.nos.social, unless the operator changed them).
Reconnecting your signer
To save, Bancwr needs a signer that holds the key you signed in with. If it has none, for example in a new tab after signing in with a remote signer, it asks you to Connect your signer. It refuses a signer that holds any other key.
Profile
The Profile page edits your public Nostr profile (kind 0).
Fields
- Name: a short handle, without spaces.
- Display name: how your name is shown.
- About
- Website
- Lightning address, for tips.
- Picture: a square image, shown as your avatar.
- Banner: a wide image, shown at the top of your profile.
- NIP-05 identifier, under Identity Verification.
- Birthday: year, month and day. Any part can be left empty.
- Automated account: turn on This is a bot if a program runs this key.
A preview of your profile is shown next to the form.
Pictures
You can paste an image address, or click Upload image.
Uploads go to your own Blossom server if you have one listed, or to the server the operator set (blossom.primal.net by default). Your signer signs the upload request.
PNG, JPEG and WebP images are resized and stripped of camera and location data. GIFs are uploaded as they are.
Uploading fills in the field. Nothing is published until you save.
NIP-05 verification
NIP-05 links your key to a name on a domain, such as name@example.com.
Click Verify identifier to check it. Bancwr only checks when you ask. If the check fails, it says why, for example the domain lists a different key or does not list the name.
Saving
Click Save profile. Bancwr reads your newest profile again first, changes only the fields on the form, and keeps everything else as it was. If no relay answers, it refuses to save.
After saving, Bancwr lists the relays that accepted the profile, and any that did not.
No profile found
If no profile is found, Bancwr does not assume you have none. It lists the relays it searched.
If you already have a profile somewhere else, enter that relay under Search another relay and click Search.
To create a new profile, tick I have no profile on another relay: create a new one. and click Create profile.
Follows
The Follows page edits your follow list (kind 3).
Following someone
- Under Follow someone, enter an
npub, a hex key, or a NIP-05 identifier likename@example.com. - Click Find.
- Check the profile shown, then click Add.
Unfollowing someone
Click Remove on their row. Click Undo to change your mind.
Saving
Adds and removes are staged. The page shows how many people you will follow and unfollow. Click Save changes to publish them together, or Discard to drop them.
A follow list is replaced as a whole when it is published. To avoid losing anything, Bancwr:
- reads your newest list again before saving, and refuses if no relay answers or if what it gets is older than the list it loaded,
- applies only your staged changes, so follows made in another app since you opened the page are kept,
- keeps everything else in the list as it was.
Use the filter box to search your follows by name, npub or NIP-05.
If no follow list is found, the page lists the relays it searched and lets you search another. To start a new list, tick I have no follow list on another relay: start a new one. and click Start follow list.
Relays
The Relays page edits your relay list (NIP-65, kind 10002). It tells other apps where to find your posts and where to send you mentions.
Each relay can be marked:
- Write: where other apps read your posts.
- Read: where apps look for mentions of you.
Adding a relay
Under Add a relay, enter an address such as wss://relay.example.com and click Add. New relays are used for reading and writing. Change that in the list.
Relay addresses must start with ws:// or wss://. A ws:// relay on another machine is flagged as unencrypted.
Removing a relay
Click Remove on its row. Click Undo to change your mind. A relay with neither Read nor Write is removed when you save.
Saving
Click Save changes, or Discard to drop your changes. Saving uses the same care as the follow list.
The new list is published to the relays in your old list, your new list, the defaults and the indexers, so relays you dropped do not keep the old list.
The Profile and Follows pages use the new list straight away.
Advice
- NIP-65 advises 2 to 4 relays of each kind. Bancwr shows this advice but does not enforce it.
- If you have no write relay, Bancwr warns that other apps will not know where to find your posts.
- If you have no relay list, the page says which relays Bancwr uses instead and offers to start from the defaults.
This bunker's relays
The page also shows the relays the bunker uses for NIP-46, for information. These are set by the operator and are not part of your relay list.
